Three-time scale models of neurons and subthreshold oscillations

چکیده

Biological neurons exhibit a wide range of ionic conductances in their soma and dendrites. These different currents are responsible for action potential generation and may also lead to complex dynamics including bursting, periodic oscillations, etc. Of a particular interest are Ca2+ conductance based on T-type Ca2+ channels, also called lowthreshold Ca2+ current, and hyperpolarization-activated cation current, Ih. These channels are common across thalamic and cortical neurons and represent one of the well known mechanisms of self-sustained burst generation. In this chapter we will discuss kinetics of these currents and their role in periodic oscillations. We further will see examples of biological neurons expressing these currents.

Interplay between Subthreshold Oscillations and Depressing Synapses in Single Neurons

In this paper we analyze the interplay between the subthreshold oscillations of a single neuron conductance-based model and the short-term plasticity of a dynamic synapse with a depressing mechanism. In previous research, the computational properties of subthreshold oscillations and dynamic synapses have been studied separately. Our results show that dynamic synapses can influence different asp...

Biophysical Properties of Subthreshold Resonance Oscillations and Subthreshold Membrane Oscillations in Neurons

Subthreshold-level activities in neurons play a crucial role in neuronal oscillations. These small-amplitude oscillations have been suggested to be involved in synaptic plasticity and in determining the frequency of network oscillations. Subthreshold membrane oscillations (STOs) and subthreshold resonance oscillations (SROs) are the main constituents of subthreshold-level activities in neurons....

Stochastic Resonance in Thalamic Neurons and Resonant Neuron Models

Neurons of the thalamus are major participants in gating sensory information for relay to the neocortex. Thalamic neurons are crucially involved in rhythmogenesis which determines the sleep/wake cycle. These roles require critical involvement of a T-type calcium current, conferring a frequency preference in response to subthreshold signals. We examine the interactions of this membrane resonance...

In vivo mouse inferior olive neurons exhibit heterogeneous subthreshold oscillations and spiking patterns.

In vitro whole-cell recordings of the inferior olive have demonstrated that its neurons are electrotonically coupled and have a tendency to oscillate. However, it remains to be shown to what extent subthreshold oscillations do indeed occur in the inferior olive in vivo and whether its spatiotemporal firing pattern may be dynamically generated by including or excluding different types of oscilla...

Spinal nerve injury enhances subthreshold membrane potential oscillations in DRG neurons: relation to neuropathic pain.

Primary sensory neurons with myelinated axons were examined in vitro in excised whole lumbar dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) taken from adult rats up to 9 days after tight ligation and transection of the L(5) spinal nerve (Chung model of neuropathic pain). Properties of subthreshold membrane potential oscillations, and of repetitive spike discharge, were examined. About 5% of the DRG neurons sampled...
